Southern Lab cruised into the second round of the LHSAA Division IV Select playoffs on Friday with a 58-0 win against Catholic-Pointe Coupee.
The No. 3 Kittens (9-1) dominated from the opening whistle and rarely, if ever, let up on the Hornets (5-6).
No. 14 Catholic-PC failed to convert their onside kick attempt to open the game, setting up Southern Lab quarterback Quincy Fillmore for a 45-yard touchdown run down the left sideline on the first play from scrimmage.
The Hornets had no answer for the Kittens run game all night as Southern Lab posted 385 yards and seven touchdowns on 15 carries.
Four of those touchdowns came on the team’s first five runs of the game, including running back Charvis Thorton’s 91-yard burst in the second quarter. Not to be outdone, the Kittens’ defense, led by linebacker Christopher Allen, prevented the Hornets from ever gaining any momentum on offense.
