Southern University Laboratory School's faculty and staff members attended a back to school professional development during the week of August 3-August 7. Each day had a theme. Monday's theme was "College Day," Tuesday's theme was, "School Spirit Day," Wednesday's theme was, "Way back Wednesday," Thursday and Friday's theme was "Dress for Success." The teachers participated in professional development with Dr. Harrison, attorneys, Mrs. Hudson, the instructional leadership team, and with professors from Southern University and Louisiana State University. The PD was set up as our own educational conference. Morning sessions were led by experts with PhDs in the teachers' respective fields. Our morning topics ranged from content analysis of political cartoons in the social studies classroom to integrating spoken word in the common core standards! We offered approximately eleven afternoon sessions, and teachers, after self analysis, chose the educational session that would benefit them the most! Our topics ranged from backwards design to tiered vocabulary instruction. These are just a few photos from our sessions! We are looking forward to implementing the instructional strategies that were learned!
