On November 7, 2014, the Southern University Laboratory School sent four students: Miyante Lafayette, Christian Cropper, Louis Russell, and Robert Harris to Southern’s campus to participate in the Southern University Law Center Marshall-Brennan Project High School Moot Court Competition. High school students from regional schools were invited to present oral arguments before a panel of guest judges comprised of law professors, law students, practicing attorneys, and judges.
Students were given the opportunity to practice their oral advocacy skills and showcase their knowledge and understanding of constitutional law before said panel. Two rounds of competition were held on that date. Two of Southern Lab’s students made it to the second round of competition. Those students were: Louis Russell and Robert Harris. Participants who had the four highest scores after the second round of competition earned a spot in the final competition round that was held on Saturday, November 8 at the First Circuit Court of Appeal.
One student from Southern Lab, Robert Harris, made it to the final round of competition. At the final round of competition, Robert Harris received top honors, winning first place and securing a spot in the Marshall-Brennan National High School Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C. that is to be held March 27-29, 2015. Congratulations to Robert Harris! We are extremely proud of his accomplishments and wish him the best of luck in D.C.! A special thanks to all participants, their parents, Vice Chancellor Jones and Professor Listache of the Southern University Law Center, Ms. Charika Tolliver and Mr. Larry Williams (SULC students who helped prepare our students for the competition), Mr. Bobby Grant (school sponsor), and Dr. Ronnie Harrison, Director of the Southern University Laboratory School.
